Following her passing, her friends and colleagues have shared tributes to her and memories of her with fans across social media. The makeup and hair industry has lost one of its brightest stars, with Stacy working with a wide range of film and TV stars over the course of her career. In this blog post we take a look at the life and style of Stacy Cumming as remembered by her celebrity clients.
Stacy Cumming’s Life
Stacy Cumming was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. She grew up in a military family, with her father being an Air Force officer and her mother a nurse. After graduating from the North Shore High School of Hawaii, she attended Brigham Young University on a volleyball scholarship. In college she studied communications and minored in art. After graduating from BYU in 1997, Stacy landed an internship at 3M’s Product Design Center where she eventually became the Director of Creative Services for its Graphics Division.
In 2000, Stacy moved across the country to Los Angeles to pursue her career in celebrity makeup application and hair styling as part of Makeup by Stacy Cumming. From there onwards, she quickly built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after hair stylists and makeup artists working with many A-list celebrities including Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johansson, Cameron Diaz and many more.
Most recently Stacy had been busy working on her own line of beauty products called “StacyCummingHair.” Her success led to her hosting TV shows such as “The Fashion Show” on E!, “Star Style With Stacy Cumming” on Oxygen Network and “Styled By” on BRAVO!
Her Personal Style
Stacy was known for her upbeat and friendly personality, which she shared with all of her clients. She made every client feel comfortable and at ease. Whether it was an interview with a magazine or a red carpet event, Stacy knew how to make everyone feel like they were being photographed by the right person.
A particular style that we can all agree on is Stacy’s iconic and often-copied look: bright red lipstick paired with a colorful eye makeup. Her signature look has been likened to one of her favorite artists, Annie Lennox.
Stacy’s personal style is quite simply beautiful – she had the ability to effortlessly make the most mundane things more interesting. The last time I saw Stacy was at an event in October 2018, when she wore blue jeans, a black shirt, and brown leather boots with light blue lipstick. Overwhelmingly simple yet stunningly cool.
